Google Adds Hindi And Indonesian Support To Text-To-Speech Engine

Read Time1 Minute, 2 Seconds

Updates to Google’s Text-to-Speech app aren’t always interesting, but today’s bump actually brings with it two new languages. For those waiting for Hindi and Indonesian language support, it’s your lucky day.

Keep in mind that this is the text-to-speech engine, not the voice recognition software that already has support for Indonesian, but not for Hindi.
What’s New

A female voice for both Indonesian and Hindi has been added to the existing package of languages. This will be welcome news to many Android users in Indonesia – which has the fourth largest population in the world – and in India, an important market for Android and the location where the budget-focused Android One line was released.

The app will also request a new permission: the ability to download files without a notification.

The APK is signed by Google and upgrades your existing app. The cryptographic signature guarantees that the file is safe to install and was not tampered with in any way. Rather than wait for Google to push this download to your devices, which can take days, download and install it just like any other APK.
